People of Columbia: Meet David Kelley

David Kelly Columbia State ParkIf you’ve visited Columbia State Park, odds are you know David Kelley… or at least his face. The Columbia favorite is involved in California Statehood Day, the Glorious 4th of July Celebration, Native Sons of the Golden West, Quartz Mountain stagecoach rides and so much more. David says he likes to “try and be a part of everything in Columbia.”

My favorite things about Columbia are all the merchants and the things they do and create. I want to be ‘somewhere in time.’ Give me the 19th century. You can have the other two.

You can catch David at next month’s Statehood Day Parade. Stagecoach rides are also available daily throughout the summer.

Columbia is like Frontier Land in Disneyland, but we are for real. Working on the stagecoach, I meet people from all over the world. They are so excited, and it is amazing to see so many happy people come to Columbia.

Since we’re celebrating our statehood September 9, what is your favorite thing about visiting or living in the California foothills?

We have a place in SONORA and love it up there. We live in Modesto and go up there as often as we can to smell the mountain air and enjoy the whole environment! We love going to the events in Columbia and never miss Colombia Kate’s tearoom, bakery, and boutique when we’re there! We also like to say hi to David Kelley, who is our neighbor in SONORA.
